The World of Dogs arena is now in its third year at Sandringham Game and Country Fair, held together by the inimitable Kev Bradley. This year we are pleased to feature:
Shadowquest Dog Display Team
Working dogs at their best. Demonstrating the brilliant talents and skills of Police, service and protection dogs.
Learn about and be entertained by these truly amazing canines starring GSDs, Malinois & Springer spaniel specialist search dogs. Informative, educational and entertaining this display incorporates obedience and control work, agility, searching, protection work, as well as stunning fire exercises. Dogs trained to the highest standard using reward based training techniques
Paul Makepeace Gun Dogs
Watch and learn from gun dog trainer and handler Paul Makepeace as he demonstrates how a young gun dog can be trained up from puppyhood to a well trained gun dog you can confidently take on a shoot. Then learn what might happen on a shoot day, and how the different breeds are used to their best advantage.
Walk Up Shoot
A simulated walk up shoot, showing how different breeds are used to flush and retrieve game on a typical working shoot
Macmillan Dash (Scurry Bandits)
A team event with teams consisting of three dogs and three handlers, attempting to collect nine dummies hidden inside the arena. This is a timed event with approximately ten teams competing for the Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. All money raised will go to Macmillan Cancer Support
Terrier racing will also be taking place twice daily in the world of dogs area, run by our own Living Heritage team. This will be fast and furious and open to all terrier breeds.
Warren Calitz and His Amazing Working Sheepdogs
Watch the expert in action. Warren Calitz, from Lancashire, is one of the country’s top sheepdog handlers and demonstrates how he works his border collies in this fascinating display.
Parade of Hounds
Burne Bloodhounds, Cheshire Beagles and Westerby Bassets will be with us in the World of Dogs arena, demonstrating how they work together as a pack. These are working hunts, and they go out regularly following the trail of a ‘runner’ (a human being who sets out about forty minutes ahead). The hounds will follow the runner’s scent over many miles until eventually he is caught, and probably licked all over!
Come and hear more. You may even get the opportunity to run…
Chase the Bunny
Always hugely popular in the World of Dogs Arena – for all breeds (we race similar breeds together). If your dog likes to chase, he will love chasing the lure and seeing if he can beat the other dogs to the finishing line. Great fun to both watch and take part in with your dog.
Gun Dogs and Falconry
A unique and fascinating demonstration of how a bird of prey can be trained to work alongside its natural predator, the dog, in order to please their expert handlers Paul Makepeace (dogs) and Chris Neal (birds). They may even involve third member of this crack team, Stanley the ferret.
Meet all the dogs and handlers taking part in the World of Dogs Arena in our World of Dogs Village afterwards.
